Check there's gas in the bottle and nothing's blocking the gas line, and use propane (not butane) once it's below +5°C. To clear a lockout, switch the control panel's 'Fan Only' setting on, off, then on again, all within 2.5 seconds - you can try this up to 4 more times if the first attempt doesn't work. If a solid LED shows the lockout still won't clear, turn the heater off, check it over for faults, power it back up and try the reset sequence again.

Overheat fault
Either the hot-air outlet or air inlet is restricted, or the heater was switched off via a battery isolating switch before it could complete its purge cycle.
Make sure the air ducts and vents aren't blocked or restricted. Propex advises leaving the heater to cool for 5-10 minutes before attempting a lockout reset: switch the control panel's 'Fan Only' setting on, off, then on again within 2.5 seconds, retrying up to 4 more times if needed. A solid LED means the lockout's still not clearing - in that case turn the heater off, check it for faults, power it up again and repeat the reset attempts.

Low/ high voltage
—
For 12V heaters, the operating voltage measured at the heater needs to be between 10V and 15V. Check the battery voltage - if it's above 10V, check the connections between heater and battery, and check the alternator or external charger. Then clear the lockout the same way: 'Fan Only' on, off, on again within 2.5 seconds, with up to 4 further retries. If a solid LED shows it's still locked out, turn the heater off, check for faults, power back up and try again.

Combustion air fault
—
Check both the combustion air inlet flue and the exhaust flue for any blockage. To clear the lockout, switch 'Fan Only' on, off, then on again within 2.5 seconds, with up to 4 more attempts allowed. If a solid LED shows it's still not clearing, turn the heater off, check it over, power back up and try the reset again.

Other / internal fault
—
Try clearing the lockout via 'Fan Only': on, off, then on again within 2.5 seconds, retrying up to 4 more times. If it still won't clear (a solid LED confirms this), turn the heater off, check it over for faults, power it back up and try again - and get in touch with Propex if none of that works.

Solid
General
Either two faults have happened simultaneously, or more than 5 lockout-clearing attempts have failed in a row.
Clear the lockout via the 'Fan Only' setting: on, off, on again, all within 2.5 seconds - up to 4 further attempts are allowed. If a solid LED shows the lockout persists, switch the heater off, check it over, power up again and repeat the reset.

No flashing
PCB not powered up
—
Check the 12V supply to the heater: it needs between 10V and 15V measured at the heater, so check the battery voltage and the connections between the battery and the heater. If that doesn't sort it, contact Propex.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I have an old Carver P4 air heater do you do a replacement?

Yes, the HS2000, HS2211 or the HS2800.

Q: Can the heater be mounted vertically?

The heater must not be mounted vertically on its nose or end or upside down but on one of its sides is not a problem. Remember when mounting the unit you should ensure you can still maintain access to the electronics cover and gas connections

Q: Where can the heater be fitted?

Most installations are mounted in a bedbox or locker. External installation is not recommended unless using the appropriate mounting box. However the HS2211 is designed to be fitted externally.

Q: How noisy is the heater?

There is very little burner noise from the heater itself. However, there will be some noise from the blown hot air similar to that of a small domestic fan heater.

Q: Can the heaters be used while vehicles are moving?

Yes, a vehicle in motion flue terminal is available and the heater should be installed and operated in compliance with the relevant regulatory requirements. Use of the the correct VIM bracket ensure compliance with the vehicle in motion test regime.

Q: What length of exhaust flue pipe can be fitted?

Total combined length must not exceed 4 meters and the inlet pipe should be slightly longer than the exhaust to balance the burner.

Q: What is the electrical consumption?

1.6amps on 12v

Q: How much do they cost?

From as little as £496 for a Heatsource 2000 complete with a single outlet vehicle fitting kit and thermostat.
