Turn the rotary switch for whichever burner you want to its ignition position (large flame), press it in, then light it yourself with a gas lighter, match, or cigarette lighter. Keep the switch pressed for a further 5-10 seconds so the automatic flame guard engages, then release it and set your preferred flame size. If it doesn't light, just repeat the process.
