Whale Underfloor Space Heater's diagnostic LED is lit, but no fault code is showing yet
The fault code has to be actively displayed - it doesn't appear on its own
Press and hold the Space Heater Function Button to display the fault code - the number of bars that light on the temperature bar is the code (1 bar = fault code 1, 2 bars = fault code 2, and so on). Match that number against the fault codes below.

Whale Underfloor Space Heater: 1 bar lit on the temperature bar (diagnostic LED lit)
No flame detected
Check the gas supply (bottle has gas, no blockage in the line); ensure propane is used below +5°C, then clear the lockout.
DIY Safe

Whale Underfloor Space Heater: 2 bars showing on the temperature display (diagnostic LED on)
Overheat
Confirm nothing is restricting the Space Heater's air ducts or vents, allow it roughly 5-10 minutes to cool, then clear the lockout.
DIY Safe
N/A
Whale Underfloor Space Heater: 3 bars showing on the temperature display (diagnostic LED on)
Low or high supply voltage (operating range is 10V-15V DC measured at the Space Heater)
Check the battery's voltage, and if it's within range, inspect the wiring linking the Space Heater to the battery, then clear the lockout.
DIY Safe

Whale Underfloor Space Heater: 4 bars showing on the temperature display (diagnostic LED on)
Combustion air fault
Make sure neither the combustion-air inlet nor the exhaust flue is blocked, then clear the lockout once they're clear.
DIY Safe

Whale Underfloor Space Heater: 5 bars showing on the temperature display (diagnostic LED on)
Other/internal fault
Attempt to clear the lockout. If that fails, contact Whale Support on +44 (0)8452172933.

Whale Underfloor Space Heater is locked out and won't clear by cycling the power
A lockout requires its own reset procedure - simply turning the power off and on does not clear it
Follow the heater's own reset procedure until the fault code disappears from the temperature display, allowing a few seconds for the diagnostic light to go out; a gas-related lockout (fault 1 or 5) still lets you run the heater on electric only. If the problem continues, contact Whale Support on +44 (0)8452172933.

Overheat
Check there's water in the Water Heater; wait at least 5-10 minutes to let it cool before clearing the lockout.

Whale Water Heater: 3 bars showing on the temperature display (diagnostic LED on)
Low or high supply voltage (operating range is 10V-15V DC)
Check the battery voltage; if it's within range, check the connections between the heater and the battery, then clear the lockout. (Note: the source handbook's own text for this fault refers to 'the Space Heater' here rather than the Water Heater - reproduced faithfully as printed, possibly a copy-paste artifact in Elddis's own document.)
